The New York Yankees recalled infielder Zelous Wheeler from Triple-A and optioned infielder Yangervis Solarte to the minors Thursday.

Wheeler hit .299 with seven home runs, 20 doubles and 31 RBI in 66 games at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The Yankees signed him to a major league contract and selected him to the 25-man roster.

Solarte, who opened the season hitting .336 in his first 34 games, hit only .187 in his last 37 games. Overall he is hitting .260 with six home runs and 30 RBIs. He was optioned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

To make room for Wheeler on the 40-man roster, infielder Dean Anna was designated for assignment.
