Scott Hairston, Cubs finalize $5M, 2-year contract
OF Tony Campana designated for assignment
The Chicago Cubs announced Sunday that they designated outfielder Tony Campana for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Scott Hairston.
That allowed the Cubs to finalize their two-year, $5 million free agent contract with Scott Hairston, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Hairston could not officially be added to the roster without Chicago making a corresponding move.
Campana, 26, hit .264 in 192 plate appearances and stole 30 bases for the Cubs in 2012. His on-base percentage is just .306 and his slugging percentage .300 in two major league seasons.
Hairston, 32, hit .263 with a career-high 20 home runs last season for the Mets. He has a chance to be the Cubs' starting right fielder.
