The Cleveland Browns will sign free agent wide receiver Earl Bennett, according to reports Thursday.

The Browns are short on proven receivers on their roster with Josh Gordon facing a possible year-long suspension for another violation of the league's substance-abuse policy and Nate Burleson suffering a broken arm in offseason workouts.

Bennett was cut by the Chicago Bears earlier this offseason after six seasons. He played in 78 games and totaled 2,277 yards and 12 touchdowns on 185 catches.

Bennett's most productive performance came in his second year with the Bears in 2009 when he caught 54 passes for 717 yards and two touchdowns. Last season, he caught 32 passes for 243 yards and four touchdowns.
