Veteran Kevin Garnett is expected to return to the Brooklyn Nets for a 20th NBA season.
Nets general manager Billy King indicated Wednesday that the 38-year-old Garnett will begin training shortly.
"I think he's preparing earlier this year than he did last summer," King said.
Nets coach Jason Kidd limited Garnett's time on the floor last season in an attempt to help him make it through the season. Garnett averaged 6.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 20.5 minutes in 54 regular-season games.
Garnett, who joined the Nets last summer in a five-player trade with the Boston Celtics that included Paul Pierce and two first-round draft picks, is scheduled to make $12 million in 2014-15.
It's uncertain whether Pierce, an unrestricted free agent, will return to the Nets next season.
"I will know come July 1," King said. "That is when everybody can start making offers and you get a feel for where the market is going to be."
