Junior forward Troy Snyder scored with three seconds remaining in the second overtime, lifting Maryland-Eastern Shore to a 64-62 victory over Coppin State on Monday at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center in Prince Anne, Md.
Snyder scored 22 points for Maryland-Eastern Shore (2-20, 2-9 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). The Hawks had lost seven in a row and 20 of their first 21 games. Freshman forward Kevin Mays added 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Hawks. Junior forward Michael Murray scored 20 points to lead Coppin State (5-21, 2-9).
The Hawks led 19-18 at halftime. Coppin State went ahead in the second half and led by as many as six at the midway point, but Maryland-Eastern Shore battled back to force overtime.
The teams traded leads in the first overtime. The Eagles led by four with 50 seconds left, but Snyder made a 3-pointer and a free throw in the final 44 seconds, sending the game to double overtime.
Coppin State tied the game at 62-62 when Murray scored with 1:22 to go, but Snyder's late basket gave the Hawks their second victory over the season.
