Madison West High School faced off with Grafton in the girls’ state soccer Division 1 semifinals in Milwaukee on Friday night.
The girls started off the second half 0-0.
In the 43rd minute, West’s Emma Guilfoil shot at the goal, and the Regents took a 1-0 lead.
Madison West won with that score. The team will play De Pere in the state championship game on Saturday.
In the Division 2 semifinals, Mount Horeb played Green Bay Notre Dame.
The game was scoreless at the hour mark when Mount Horeb was awarded a penalty kick.
Cassie Handrick stepped up and scored for the Vikings, making the score 1-0.
Later in the game, Kelly Sullivan on the breakaway secured the Vikings' victory.
“I know it means a lot to us,” said Sullivan, Mount Horeb’s senior forward.
“I can’t argue with the effort,” said the Vikings' head coach, Mark Newman. “The girls played so hard today, and we get what we want, a chance tomorrow.”
Mount Horeb won 2-0. The team will play Catholic Memorial in Saturday’s championship game.
