Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper was out of Saturday's lineup against the San Diego Padres with a jammed thumb.

Harper hurt the thumb while sliding into third base during Friday night's game. X-rays taken afterward turned out negative. A hand specialist was scheduled to examine the injury Saturday.

Manager Matt Williams said before the game that Harper was available to come off the bench.

"The early tests today are pretty good," Williams said. "The X-rays are negative. There's some swelling there. We just want to make sure we knock it out."

Kevin Frandsen started in place of Harper in left field.

Before exiting in the fourth inning of the 11-1 win, Harper was 2-for-2 with a career-high four RBIs and lifted his batting average to .289.
