The Sacramento Kings confirmed Wednesday that forward Rudy Gay exercised his $19.3 million contract option for next season.
Gay, 27, came to the Kings in a December trade with the Toronto Raptors along with power forward Quincy Acy and center Aaron Gray for center Chuck Hayes, power forward Patrick Patterson, guard John Salmons and point guard Greivis Vasquez.
In 55 games (all starts) for the Kings last season, Gay averaged 20.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.22 steals. Between Toronto and Sacramento, Gay started 73 games and averaged 20.0 points and a career-best 2.9 assists.
"We're thrilled that Rudy will return to Sacramento next season," Kings majority owner Vivek Ranadive said. "He quickly demonstrated consistency both on the court and in the community, and we regard him as a valuable member of our organization moving forward."
In his eight-year NBA career, Gay averages more than 18 points and five rebounds per game.
The Kings finished with a 28-54 record last season.
