GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Philadelphia forward Jakub Voracek scored his 10th goal of the season with eight minutes remaining in the third period to break a tie and the Flyers scored the final four goals for a 5-3 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes at Jobing.com Arena on Saturday.
Voracek stole a puck from defenseman Keith Yandle in the Phoenix end and skated in alone on Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith, and his shot trickled through Smith's pads as the Flyers recorded their seventh victory in their last nine games.
Center Claude Giroux scored an empty-net goal with 30.9 seconds remaining.
Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds tied the game at 3 earlier in the third period, when he put in a rebound of Voracek on a power play at 4:22 of the third period.
Simmonds, who has a team-high 14 goals, has seven goals in his last seven games and has points in eight of his last nine.
Phoenix forward Mikkel Boedker scored his career-high 12th goal for the Coyotes (20-12-9), whose 49 points are the third most at the midway point of the season since the franchise moved to Phoenix in 1996-97.
Goaltender Steve Mason had 26 saves for Philadelphia (21-17-4).
Smith had 23 saves for the Coyotes, who are 2-4-4 in their last 10 games. The Coyotes were 0-for-4 on the power play and are 0-for-13 in their last four games.
Coyotes center Rob Klinkhammer made it 1-0 1:29 into the second period, the first of four goals in a 5:18 span early in the period. Antonie Vermette attempted a wrap-around shot from behind the net on Mason, who redirected the puck in front with his stick. Klinkhammer put it in for his eight goal.
Forward Lauri Korpikoski backhanded a rebound of a Connor Murphy shot past Mason at 2:54 for a 2-0 lead, his fifth goal of the season. Rookie Murphy had a career-high two assists.
The Flyers closed to 2-1 when forward Scott Hartnett took a cross-ice pass from defenseman Mark Streit and put it past Smith from the left circle at 3:11, the third goal in 102 seconds.
Forward Mikkel Boedker scored his career-high 12th goal to give the Coyotes a 3-1 lead at 6:47 of the period. Boedker took a long centering pass from defenseman Keith Yandle at the blue line and skated in alone on Mason, who was beaten high to the stick side.
Philadelphia forward Braydon Schenn finished a five-goal second period to cut the Coyotes' lead to 3-2 at 17:15 of the period, his goal coming after Vincent Lecavalier's pass from behind the net.
NOTES: Coyotes captain C Shane Doan played 11:49 in the first two periods in his return to the ice after missing 12 games with Rocky Mountain fever. He last played exactly a month ago, at Calgary on Dec. 4. Despite the absence, Doan was tied for the team lead with 12 goals entering the game. ... Coyotes D Oliver Ekman-Larsson (concussion protocol) and D Zbynek Michalek (lower body) missed the game. Ekman-Larsson was slammed into the boards in the first period Thursday by Columbus F Derek MacKenzie, who was not penalized for the hit but was given a three-game suspension after a league review Friday. ... Philadelphia C Sean Couture is the only Phoenix-born player in the NHL. ... The Flyers played the fifth game of a six-game holiday trip Saturday. The Flyers were 3-1 in the first four games on the trip, which will include 6,689 air and bus miles.
