San Diego, CA -- (Sports Network) - Rookie Josh Barfield singled in Khalil Greene in the bottom of the 11th inning to boost San Diego to its sixth straight win, 1-0, over the Chicago Cubs in the opener of a four-game series.Scott Cassidy (2-0) threw the final two-thirds of an inning to get the win, while Scott Williamson (2-2) was the recipient of Chicago's fourth straight defeat. Jacque Jones had two of only four hits for the Cubs, but the Padres weren't much better offensively as Dave Roberts had two of their five hits. Chan Ho Park allowed two hits, walked four and struck out four in nine innings for the Padres, while Carlos Zambrano yielded four hits, struck out 10 and walked three in seven frames for Chicago. The teams combined to leave 19 runners on base, including 11 for San Diego. However, Greene's speed won the game. He walked to lead off the inning and stole second with one out. Barfield then lined a single to center field, and Juan Pierre's throw to the plate was late. "He was throwing that slider. It was his best pitch," Barfield said. "I was looking for the slider." The Cubs had a golden opportunity in the eighth inning after loading the bases, but Pierre grounded into a fielder's choice to end the frame. Freddie Bynum dropped a fly ball from Barfield in the bottom of the ninth, but with runners at first and second, Josh Bard popped out and pinch-hitter Geoff Blum flied out to left to end the inning. Chicago had a runner on second in the 11th, but couldn't score. Game Notes Bynum had two errors...Chicago has won 10 of its last 12 in San Diego...The Padres shut out their second straight opponent as they also blanked the Dodgers on Thursday.
