Philadelphia, PA -- Donovan McNabb was 32-of-43 for a franchise-record 464 yards and five touchdown passes as the Philadelphia Eagles tore apart the Green Bay Packers, 47-17.
McNabb set career highs for completions, yards passing and scoring tosses. Brian Westbrook had 11 catches for 156 yards and hauled in three of McNabb's touchdown passes as the Eagles improved to 11-1 on the season. McNabb had 303 yards passing and all five touchdown tosses in the first half alone, as the Eagles grabbed a 32-point lead by the intermission.
"Donovan was very accurate with his throws," said Eagles' head coach Andy Reid. "I thought our defense played tight. There was pressure on the quarterback all night."
Reid collected the 67th victory of his tenure in Philadelphia, breaking the team record set by Greasy Neale.
"We know with the teams we have ahead it's going to be competitive throughout," Reid said of his team staying focused despite having wrapped up the division title. "We just have to stay on course. I have to bank on the locker room and the leaders I have there."
In stark contrast to McNabb's performance was that of Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre, who finished the contest 14-for-29 for 131 yards and two interceptions. Favre also had a string of 36 consecutive games with a touchdown pass halted -- the second-longest such streak in NFL history.
The Packers (7-5) had a six-game win streak halted, but remain tied for first in the NFC North, as the co-leading Minnesota Vikings were upset by the Chicago Bears Sunday.
McNabb and Terrell Owens hooked up on a 41-yard touchdown pass to put the Eagles up 7-0 with 5:57 left in the first quarter. Owens hauled in the pass near the 20-yard line, cut across the field and found the end zone for the 14th time this season, an Eagles' club record. He finished with eight catches and a game-high 161 yards receiving.
The Eagles made it a 14-0 game in the second quarter, as McNabb engineered a nine-play drive that covered a season-high 93 yards and ended with a nine-yard scoring toss to Brian Westbrook with 10 1/2 minutes left in the first half.
McNabb and Westbrook hooked up again just under five minutes later, this time on a 41-yard catch-and-run. Westbrook was one-on-one on the right side of the field, and McNabb dropped in a pass to the speedy running back, who took it in stride and ran untouched into the end zone for a 21-0 game with 5:37 left in the first half.
Following a Green Bay three-and-out, Philadelphia got good field position after Dexter Wynn returned a punt 17 yards near midfield. The Eagles needed just three plays to find paydirt, as McNabb connected with L.J. Smith for a six-yard TD. That gave Philadelphia a 28-0 lead with just over three minutes left in the second quarter.
Another Packers' three-and-out led to another punt and another solid return by Wynn, who took this one back 40 yards to the Green Bay 32-yard line. McNabb needed just two plays to score this time, as he hit Owens for 20 yards, then found Westbrook on a crossing pattern for a 12-yard score and a 35-0 Eagles' lead with 1:48 left in the half.
Green Bay managed a field goal just before the intermission, but the Eagles took a 35-3 advantage into the locker room, thanks to a tremendous performance from McNabb. The signal-caller completed his first 14 passes and finished the first half 24-of-28 for 303 yards and five TD passes.
Favre was just 9-of-22 for 107 yards and two interceptions in the opening 30 minutes.
David Akers provided the Philadelphia offense in the second half, booting field goals of 22, 45, 47 and 22 yards.
The Eagles led 47-3 before Packers' backup quarterback Craig Nall connected on touchdown passes to William Henderson and Javon Walker in the final 8 1/2 minutes of the game to account for the 47-17 final. Nall ended the game with eight completions in 11 attempts for 95 yards and the two scores.
Ahman Green rushed for 37 yards on 11 carries for Green Bay, while Walker hauled in seven catches for 72 yards and a score.
