Will Speed Kill Badgers' Bowl Bid?

Hurricanes, Badgers To Test Speed, Strength

Updated: 12:42 pm CST December 18, 2009

The Wisconsin Badgers football team is 3.5 point underdogs heading into the Dec. 29 Champs Sports Bowl game against the Miami Hurricanes.

A common argument during bowl season is that the Big Ten doesn't have the speed to compete with teams from other conferences like the ACC.

"Just because we have big strong lineman and we run the ball people think we are a power team," said Badgers' running back John Clay. "But we have a lot of speed on this team."

Last year, the Florida State, also from the ACC, dominated the Badgers 42-13. Critics said the Seminoles' speed and athleticism was too much for Wisconsin to handle, but this year's Badgers don't

"We know what we can do," said Clay. "We have the power and the speed and (Miami) also have the power and the speed."

On the field, fans will find out if the Badgers can match Miami's tempo and if the Hurricane's can match Wisconsin's strength.
