(Sports Network) - The Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday placed middle linebacker E.J. Henderson on injured reserve.

Henderson suffered a gruesomely fractured left fibula in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 30-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He had surgery on Monday.

The Maryland product was carted off the field with 6:17 left in regulation. He and teammate Jamarca Sanford collided while trying to make a tackle on a run by Tim Hightower.

Henderson tumbled to the ground and then stayed there motionless until being lifted onto a cart. His brother, injured Vikings linebacker Erin Henderson, rode on the cart with his sibling to the locker room.

The seventh-year pro had 83 total tackles in 12 starts this season for Minnesota, which leads the NFC North with a 10-2 record.

Also on Wednesday, the club promoted tight end Garrett Mills from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Linebacker Jeremy Leman and tackle Drew Radovich were signed to the practice squad.
