Warner Highlights NFC Weekly Winners

Posted: 3:20 pm CST December 9,2009

(Sports Network) - Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner, Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews and New York Giants punt returner Domenik Hixon have been named the NFC's top players for Week 13 of the NFL season.

Warner had a 127.7 passer rating in Arizona's 30-17 win against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night, completing 22-of-32 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns. The win moved the Cardinals to 8-4, the club's best record through 12 games since 1976. Arizona can clinch the NFC West with a victory over the 49ers this Monday night.

The Cardinals' signal-caller has now posted a passer rating of at least 120 in four consecutive games, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer Johnny Unitas (1965) as the only players in NFL history to accomplish the feat. This was Warner's ninth career Player of the Week Award.

Matthews recorded a career-high six tackles to go with two sacks and a forced fumble in the Packers' 27-14 win over Baltimore. The USC product has seven sacks this season, tied with Washington's Brian Orakpo for the most by a rookie. This is the first time he received this award. It is the second straight week that Green Bay has won the award as cornerback Charles Woodson was named the defensive player for Week 12.

The special teams honor went to Hixon, who returned a punt 79 yards for a touchdown in a 31-24 win over Dallas. For the game, Hixon returned three punts for 95 yards. This is Hixon's first career Player of the Week Award. The Akron product is the first Giant return specialist to be honored since Amani Toomer in 1997 (Week 8).
