(Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics acquired third baseman Jake Fox and second baseman Aaron Miles from the Chicago Cubs on Thursday in exchange for three minor league players.

Chicago receives pitchers Jeff Gray and Ronny Morla and outfielder Matt Spencer as part of the deal.

Fox had two stints with the Cubs in 2009, lasting 82 total games, and batted .259 with 11 homers and 44 runs batted in. The 27-year-old was a third-round pick by Chicago in 2003 and has spent his entire professional career with the organization.

Miles, 32, is under contract for one more year after signing a deal with the Cubs prior to last season and hit a career-low .185 with no homers and five RBI in just 74 games of an injury-plagued season. He had two stints on the disabled list in 2009.

Gray, 29, has had some major league experience with the A's in 2008 and 2009, totaling a 4.35 earned run average in 29 career appearances.

Spencer, 23, spent last season in Single-A and Double-A and put up a combined .289 batting average with 19 homers and 91 RBI in 123 contests. He was acquired by Oakland from Philadelphia in the trade that sent Joe Blanton to the Phillies in 2008.

Morla, 21, was with Short Season Single-A in 2009 and went 1-7 with a 4.86 ERA in 17 games -- 12 starts.
