Brewers Trade Shortstop To Twins

Hardy, Centerfielder Gomez Swap Teams

Updated: 11:28 am CST November 6, 2009

The Minnesota Twins traded outfielder Carlos Gomez to the Milwaukee Brewers for shortstop J.J. Hardy Friday, according to mlb.com.

This clears up roster questions for both teams. The Brewers will likely hand the shortstop position in 2010 to Alcides Escobar, the organization's top prospect.

The twins were a bit crowded in the outfield with Jason Kubel, Michael Cuddyer, Delman Young, and Denard Span. One of those players can also hit as a designated hitter.

Hardy batted .229 with 16 doubles and 11 home runs in 2009. He had 47 RBIs in 117 games. He was selected to the National League All-Star team in 2007.

The Twins acquired Gomez in February 2008 from the New York Mets as part of the Johan Santana trade. In 2009, he batted .229, with 15 doubles, 3 home runs and 28 RBIs.
