MADISON, Wis. -- Junior goalie Brett Bennett had an easy night in nets for the Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey team on Friday night. He stopped all 19 shots put on goal by Mankato State, helping the Badgers to their first win of the season.Junior goalie Scott Gudmundson had 24 saves for the Badgers but let in three goals on Saturday night, leaving the Badgers a 1-2-1 record to start the season. Coach Mike Eaves talked about his decision to split time in goal."It was kind of a no-brainer," said Eaves. "Both goalies had played well. Not getting a win on Saturday was not a direct result of how [Scott] played. He did some good things and he has earned the right to play."Shane Connelly played goalie for the Badgers in 37 games last season. He finished with a record of 19-14-4 and a 2.51 goals against average.Gudmundson played in six games last season and Bennett made his first ever start last week. Eaves said the team will continue to work to find its identity and that includes evaluating the goalies."We'll take a look again this week and see where we stand with our goaltenders," said Eaves.
