Twins' Morneau Out For The Remainder Of Season

Posted: 11:40 pm CDT September 14, 2009

(Sports Network) - Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau will miss the remainder of the season due to a stress fracture in his lower back.

Morneau, the 2006 American League MVP, was hitting .274 with 30 homers and 100 RBI this season.

The Twins also could be without third baseman Joe Crede for the rest of the season due to a strained lower back.

The injuries are a big blow for the Twins, who are 5 1/2 games behind Detroit for the lead in the AL Central.

Michael Cuddyer started at first base Monday night and clubbed the tying three-run homer during a six-run eighth inning, helping the Twins to a 6-3 win over Cleveland.
