Brett Favre and Vikings coach Brad Childress are apparently set for a meeting in Mississippi. But Favre's agent insists the veteran quarterback remains retired.

SURVEY: Do You Think Brett Favre Will Head To The Vikings?

The Star Tribune of Minneapolis cited an unidentified source on its Web site Wednesday, reporting Childress was expected to dine with Favre in the evening and further discuss on Thursday the possibility of him joining the Vikings.

But USA Today quoted Favre's agent Bus Cook in a story on its Web site, saying his client is not reconsidering his decision to quit football after 18 seasons.

Cook said "to his knowledge" the reports of a Childress-Favre meeting are not true. Cook said Favre told him Tuesday night he didn't know where the story was coming from. Cook said he hasn't been contacted by the team.

"As far as I know, Brett Favre is retired, living on his farm. I don't know where it's came from. I have no knowledge of it," Cook said. "He has not hired a trainer and he has not hired a coach. As far as the last time I talked to him (and) the media, nothing's changed to my knowledge and Brett has not told me anything differently."

The Star Tribune is also reporting that the Vikings front office is split on whether they want Favre wearing purple.

Packers offensive tackle Mark Tauscher, who is now a free agent, couldn't escape the Favre questions while speaking to Edison Middle School students in Janesville Wednesday. He and first lady Jessica Doyle are challenging students at the school to read for 20 minutes a day for 20 days.

However, when it came time for students to ask questions, one asked if Tauscher had heard rumors of Favre going to Minnesota.

"I did, I did. It's not set in stone, but what do you think?" Tauscher said.

The student said he thinks Favre will be a Viking. Tauscher said Minnesota is his favorite team to play against. He said he and Favre keep in touch by writing letters.
