Hawks Continue Fight For Home-Court Advantage, Top Bucks

(Sports Network) - Joe Johnson scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds, as the playoff-bound Atlanta Hawks used a late run to secure a 113-105 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Mike Bibby added 22 points and eight assists for the Hawks, who finished a quick road trip with a 2-0 mark. Josh Smith had 21 points and seven boards. Al Horford ended with 19 points and nine rebounds for the victors.

Atlanta sits fourth in the Eastern Conference, 3 1/2 games ahead of idle Miami. The Hawks will host Indiana and Miami before wrapping up their regular season at Memphis.

Milwaukee was paced by Keith Bogans, who tallied 22 points off the bench. Richard Jefferson finished with 19 points and seven helpers for the Bucks, who have dropped four in a row. Charlie Villanueva had 15 points and seven boards. Dan Gadzuric and Ramon Sessions each added 10 points in the defeat.

A pair of shots at the line from Johnson put the Hawks ahead 93-80 with 8:42 to play, but the Bucks came charging back.

Down 97-85, Milwaukee went on a 12-4 surge to cut the deficit to 101-97 with 3:15 remaining. Sessions' two foul shots and bucket culminated the run.

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute made a pair from the line to bring the Bucks within 103-101 with 1:51 to go. But the Hawks sealed the tilt by responding with an 11-2 spurt. Bibby started the run with a trey from the corner and Flip Murray made a pair of foul shots to put Atlanta ahead by 11.

Following a wire-to-wire battle in the first frame, the Bucks held onto a slim 28-27 edge.

Ahead 50-46 with under 3 1/2 minutes left in the half, Milwaukee ripped off nine consecutive points to take a 59-46 lead. Jefferson's 16-foot jumper got the flurry started and he ended it with a pair of foul shots with less than 1 1/2 minutes remaining.

The Bucks headed to the locker room with a 62-53 advantage. Milwaukee shot a sizzling 61.5 percent from the field in the first half, compared to 48.6 percent for the Hawks.

Trailing 67-57 early in the third quarter, Atlanta rattled off 11 consecutive points to take the edge. Smith's foul shot capped off the run with under seven minutes to go.

After a pair of Mbah a Moute foul shots, the Hawks used a 16-4 run to go up 84-73 with 44 seconds left. Atlanta hit four three-pointers during the spurt, including two from Johnson. The Hawks took an 84-74 advantage into the final frame following a foul shot from Jefferson.

Game Notes

The Hawks went 34-of-44 from the stripe, compared to 21-of-27 for Milwaukee...Bucks center Francisco Elson missed the game due to a strained right hip flexor...Atlanta won the season series with Milwaukee, 3-1.
