Hughes Leads Wisconsin Past FSU In OT

(Sports Network) - Trevon Hughes scored 10 points and made a finger roll with two seconds left in overtime to lift 12th-seeded Wisconsin to a 61-59 upset-win over fifth-seeded Florida State in an East Region first-round matchup of the NCAA Tournament.

With the score tied at 56, Toney Douglas drilled a trey with 1:14 remaining to put the Seminoles ahead by three. But Hughes found an open Jordan Taylor under the basket on the ensuing Wisconsin possession. Taylor made the easy layup to cut the gap to two with 47.4 seconds remaining.

Douglas misfired on a three-pointer with around 14 ticks left. Jason Bohannon grabbed the defensive board and raced across midcourt before calling a timeout with 8.3 seconds to go.

Hughes took the inbound pass and drove to his left before spinning and throwing up a wild finger roll. Hughes somehow managed to make the shot as Douglas fouled him. Hughes drilled the foul shot to give the Badgers a 61-59 edge with 2.0 ticks remaining. And Florida State failed to get off a shot after a football-like pass from under their own basket.

Bohannon added 16 points for the Badgers (20-12), who advance to play fourth- seeded Xavier in the second round on Sunday. Marcus Landry ended with 10 points, while Keaton Nankivil had 14 points off the bench.

Douglas paced Florida State with 26 points. Chris Singleton ended with 12 points for the Seminoles (25-10), who dropped to 12-11 all-time in the tourney.
