Posted: 12:24 pm CST December 12, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Chicago Bears placed running back Garrett Wolfe on injured reserve, and also signed linebacker Gilbert Gardner on Friday.

Wolfe suffered a hamstring injury early in the first quarter and did not return to last Sunday's 23-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. He did not play Thursday against New Orleans.

Over 13 games this season, primarily on special teams, the 24-year-old gained 69 rushing yards on 15 carries. He also led the team with 21 special teams tackles.

Gardner signed as a free agent with the Detroit Lions in March, but played in only two games this season before being released on October 25.

The Purdue product has racked up 106 tackles, one sack and one interception in five NFL seasons. He spent his first three years with the Colts and one with the Titans.
