Brett Favre said he's tempted to show up at the Green Bay Packers' training camp just to call the team's "bluff."

In the second part of an interview with Fox News, the 38-year-old quarterback said he knows his arrival in camp would cause a media circus, but that might not stop him. Packers' players are scheduled to report July 27.

An excerpt of the interview, provided to The Associated Press, said it's a tempting thought, and he thinks it's going to be a circus already, whether he goes there.

The interview on the show "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren" is being broadcast Tuesday night.

The three-time NFL MVP said he feels "a little bit" bad for would-be successor Aaron Rodgers and insists he doesn't want to be a distraction to his teammates.

But Favre and the Packers appear headed toward a messy divorce after Favre demanded his release last week.

Favre conceded that the latest in his long line of reversals on his football future has been tough on Rodgers, the Packers' first-round pick in 2005.

After avoiding public comment through weeks of speculation about his football future, Favre started to speak up this week.

Favre retired in March but has decided he wants to play football again, but doesn't feel welcome in Green Bay, so he's asking to be released.

Favre's first substantial comments on his latest retirement decision reversal come in an interview with Fox News' Greta Van Susteren, which aired Monday evening.

"I am guilty of retiring early and there is a reason for that," Favre said, according to an excerpt provided to The Associated Press. "And the major issue is 'Why did he retire,' and 'He asked for a release because he doesn't want to play in Green Bay.' That's not true. And I hope people are hearing this and saying 'OK, that clears it up."

Favre told Van Susteran he was "never fully committed" to retiring and felt pressured by the Packers to make a decision. It's a notion Packers general manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy deny, according to Fox News.

Van Susteren, who is from Appleton, and is a Packers shareholder, said Favre made it clear he would not return to the Packers if he wasn't the starter. While Favre said the Packers asked him for a list of teams to which he would accept a trade, he wants to be released to make sure he ends up on a competitive club, according to Fox News.com.

Said Favre during Van Susteren's interview, "…once again, them (Packers) moving on does not bother me. It doesn't. I totally understand that…I knew that that could possibly happen. All I was saying is, you know, I'm thinking about playing again," according to Fox News.com.

The interview comes after word broke last week that Favre wanted to come back.

Packers' officials have been weighing their options since word of Favre's return. The team has said Favre could rejoin the team in a "different role" but said it's committed to going with Aaron Rodgers as its starter. General manager Ted Thompson said Favre can rejoin the team from retirement but would have to be a backup.

To show support for the erstwhile star, more than 100 people rallied outside Lambeau Field Sunday to pressure the team into reinstating Favre as starting quarterback.

Should the Packers grant Favre's request for an unconditional release from his contract?

Another rally occurred Monday night in the Milwaukee area and more will be held every Sunday until the team reinstates Favre. The organizers have started a Web site, www.bringbackbrettfavre.com, where fans can vote on what the Packers should do.

Favre has asked for unconditional release from his contract, something Thompson said he won't allow.

Survey Company Say Most Residents Want Favre Back

It's not a huge surprise that most Green Bay residents want Favre back with the Pack next year, but a new survey clinches it.

The poll found that 66 percent of respondents said that they wanted the quarterback on the team again, according to Serafin & Associates, a Chicago communications company.

The survey was conducted on Sunday. Officials called about 49,000 in the Green Bay white pages with about 21,000 people answering the call.

Most of the respondents said that they want Favre back as the starter. About 19 percent say it's Aaron Rodgers turn to start and 15 percent want Favre as a player-coach.

About 34 percent said that Favre should stay retired.

The survey also found that 54 percent said that they would feel betrayed if Favre took another team to the Super Bowl.

An overwhelming majority -- almost three-fourths of those surveyed -- said the team shouldn't trade Favre, WISC-TV reported.
