Philadelphia 4, Washington 3, 2OT (Flyers lead series 3-1)

Mike Knuble's goal 6:40 into the second overtime lifted the Philadelphia Flyers to a dramatic 4-3 victory over Washington in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal.

With several Philadelphia players engaged in a battle for the puck along the end boards, it was finally dug loose by Jeff Carter. He then dished to Knuble in front of the net, where the winger knocked the disc past Cristobal Huet.

Carter had a pair of goals, while Danny Briere also scored in regulation for the Flyers, who have taken a commanding 3-1 series lead.

Martin Biron was stellar between the pipes, turning aside 38-of-41 shots.

Nicklas Backstrom and Alexander Semin each had a goal and an assist, while Steve Eminger also lit the lamp for the Caps.

Alex Ovechkin registered a pair of helpers, but was once again neutralized by a contingent of players, while Huet ended with 42 saves.

Game 5 is Saturday afternoon in the nation's capital.

Boston 5, Montreal 1 (Montreal leads series 3-2)

Glen Metropolit scored the first of four Boston goals in the third period, as the Bruins staved off elimination with a 5-1 win over Montreal in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal.

Marco Sturm, Zdeno Chara, Vladimir Sobotka and Phil Kessel each scored for Boston, which drew within 3-2 in the best-of-seven series.

The Bruins had scored only five goals all series, and were shut out in Game 4.

Andrew Ference and David Krejci each added two assists, while Tim Thomas stopped 31-of-32 shots in the win. Carey Price, who made 27 saves in the Game 4 shutout, gave up all five goals on just 24 shots for the Canadiens.

Alex Kovalev scored the lone goal for Montreal, which now must travel to Boston on Saturday to try to win the series.

Dallas 3, Anaheim 1 (Stars lead series 3-1)

Stu Barnes registered a goal and an assist, as the Dallas Stars downed the Anaheim Ducks, 3-1, in Game 4 of their Western Conference quarterfinal set.

Marty Turco stopped 28-of-29 shots to earn the win. Mathieu Schneider scored the lone goal for the Ducks, who will host Game 5 on Friday.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere allowed three goals on 20 shots in defeat. Right winger Corey Perry was back in the lineup for Anaheim after missing the final 12 games of the regular season and the first three of the playoffs with a quad injury.

Perry had a tendon in his right thigh partially severed by the skate blade of Colorado netminder Jose Theodore midway through the third period of the Ducks' 1-0 loss on March 6.

Colorado 3, Minnesota 2 (Avalanche leads series 3-2)

Wojtek Wolski and Paul Stastny scored goals 1:19 apart in the third period, as Colorado edged Minnesota, 3-2, in Game 5 of the teams' Western Conference quarterfinal series.

Jose Theodore made 38 saves, helping Colorado win despite being out-shot 40-17.

Brian Rolston and Pierre-Marc Bouchard had the goals for Minnesota, while Niklas Backstrom allowed all three goals in the loss.

San Jose 4, Calgary 3 (Sharks lead series 3-2)

Jonathan Cheechoo scored twice, and the San Jose Sharks took the lead in their Western Conference quarterfinal with Calgary with a 4-3 win over the Flames.

Joe Pavelski and Patrick Marleau each had a goal and assist for San Jose, which leads the best-of-seven series 3-2, and can win it in Game 6, set for Sunday in Calgary.

Evgeni Nabokov turned aside 33-of-36 shots in the win.
