Badger Women's Hockey Team Demolishes Harvard

Team Looking For Third-Straight Championship

Updated: 7:34 am CDT March 21, 2008

Hopes of a third straight title remain alive for the University of Wisconsin women's hockey team.

Jinelle Zaugg scored twice, Jessie Vetter stopped 33 shots, and the Badgers beat Harvard 4-1 today in the semifinals of the NCAA Women's Frozen Four in Duluth, Minnesota.

Erika Lawler and Jasmine Giles also scored, and Meghan Duggan had two assists for the fourth-ranked Badgers (29-8-3), who will face either Minnesota-Duluth or New Hampshire in Saturday's title game.

Top-ranked Harvard (32-2-0) lost for the first time in 22 games. It was just the second time this year that Harvard allowed more than two goals -- both were losses.

After Jen Brawn gave the Crimson a 1-0 first period lead, Lawler and Giles scored two minutes apart early in the second for Wisconsin. Zaugg scored on a feed from Lawler midway through the second to make it 3-1, and on a feed from Mallory Deluce early in the third period.

Wisconsin beat Minnesota-Duluth 4-1 in last year's title game, and beat Minnesota 3-0 in 2006.
