Many of those fans who were having a tough time dealing with the news gathered at Lambeau Field to be close to other fans.

Some who spoke with WISC-TV Tuesday had a hard time holding back tears as they talked about a man who they consider part of their family.

Patricia Hubert is one of many who are still shocked that Favre is hanging up his jersey for good.

"I was at home alone and I was feeling so sad," Hubert said. "You really didn't want to have this day ever come. I knew, just thinking about it, I knew it was going to come soon -- but it's really hard when the day actually comes."

With her credit card in hand, Hubert bought just about everything she could find Tuesday with Favre's name on it.

"These are for my sons. I just wanted to get them because I know once they're gone, they're gone," she said.

Many other Packer fans who gathered at Lambeau Field Tuesday had a hard time holding back their emotions.

"I am (a little upset). It's just, it's different. Something's wrong," said Packers fan Matt Hogan.

"I'm shocked, because I thought for sure that he'd be back for one more year -- I really did," said Mike Peterson, of Luxemburg.

Fans Tuesday sported their Packers colors and did their best to cope with news that no one wanted to hear. Hubert said it is hard not to get choked up.

"I still feel that way -- that you're going to break down and start crying. But yeah, that's how it has left a lot of the Packer fans. They're all kind of in shock, even though we knew it was coming," Hubert said.

Fans who talked with WISC-TV they are happy that Favre will now get to spend much more time with his family. But to his extended family, who watches him every football Sunday, it's going to be a tough day when Favre doesn't take the field this coming season.

"It may take a little while, but I think they have a lot of new and raw talent, so I think they'll still get far," said Packer fan Brooke Romdenne. Romdenne watched the Favre news conference from State Street Brats in Madison with a group of friends. "I don't think there would have ever been a good time for Brett Favre to retire. People do have a tie to him and they tend to consider the Packers as Brett Favre. I think it would have been hard regardless of when it was."

The group of friends toasted Favre's career and said they believe the Packers will have another successful season even without Favre.

"Life will move on," said Packer fan Monica Russo. "I really feel like if this is his decision it's time for him to go. "He's going to go out and live his life. Be happy for him. "He's given so much to the team already. I don't think we can really ask for much more."

The group of college students all aged 21 and 22-years-old said they have no memories of football without Favre.

"Do you remember football without Brett Favre?" asked WISC-TV.

"No not at all," said Romdenne. "I have no memory of it, nothing."

They said they look forward to a new era of football.
