The phones at Fan 4 Ever have been ringing off the hook and a steady stream of Favre devotees have been popping in to scoop up some No. 4 merchandise. Some shoppers are dropping hundreds of dollars on framed, autographed photographs or other QB mementos, WISC-TV reported.

Some fans said that they are totally in shock over the news and came to the store to at least get a piece of Favre history. They said that Favre will be sorely missed because he was a regular guy and yet a role model.

"I was very shocked. I was very surprised. I thought he was going to come back," said Packers fan Donna Winter. "So, I drove out to cheer myself and surround myself with all Brett and all the Packer stuff. I just wanted to be around Brett in whatever way I could."

"It's because he was a whole person, not just a flashy quarterback, I think. They had a high regard for him because of his family, all the things he's gone through and survived. I think that's a good example to anybody," said Jim Laundrie, who grew up in Green Bay.

Brian Anderson and Dave Thomason, co-owners of Fan 4 Ever, just relocated to Grand Avenue. They are also in charge of Brett Favre's fan mail and his official Web site.

So many people tried to get on the site after the news broke that the page crashed at least once, said Anderson.

"Brett just related to everybody. He's just an ordinary guy with the same problems a lot of people have," Anderson said.

Phone orders for items are coming in at a rate of one every couple of minutes, they said.

Despite all the fan frenzy with Favre's departure, Anderson said that he's not going to bump up his prices.

"I just wouldn't feel right," he said.

His partner is a pilot and travel arranger for Favre. Thomason said that he thought Favre wouldn't be coming back after the end of the season and was certain of it on Monday. He talked to Favre, but said that Favre told him nothing specifically about his retirement.

Thomason said that he theorizes Favre would have stayed had Randy Moss been recruited. He said that Favre was so unselfish that he would have made contract changes to help bring in another key receiver.
