Fast Food Alternatives

Drive by the drive-thru. You don't have to break for a burger! Try these ideas instead.

  • Most grocery store delis have ready-made sandwiches. They're generally lower in fat and calories (check the nutrition labels) than a burger and fries. And it takes about the same amount of time as a drive-thru.
  • Convenience stores might surprise you with a selection of the same. Pick up a turkey and cheese sandwich, pretzels and a V8 - it'll set you back only 410 calories and 7 grams of fat. Some stores stock new sandwiches daily.
  • The convenience store also has low-fat snacks you may not have considered.
  • Granola bar (180 calories, 6 fat grams)
  • Pretzels (110 calories, 0/1 fat grams)
  • Beef Jerky (80 calories, .5 fat grams)
  • Fast Food
  • Pack a snack for you and the kids.
  • A zipper baggie of chopped veggies can hold off hunger in kids just long enough to get where you're going without a fast food stop.
  • A box of raisins can do the same. Plus, they shrivel up after a few days on the floor of your car so they're easy to vacuum!
  • Bottled water might hold off hunger, but it will likely add a potty stop.

Just as fast, not as fattening!
