MADISON, Wis. -- There were 300 more anglers on area lakes this weekend thanks to the Yahara Fishing Club. The club hosed a fishing day for children on Sunday at Warner Park.

More than 300 children received a free rod and reel or tackle box as they arrived. The club's goal is to get more young people involved in outdoor activities, organizers said.

"We look to plant seeds in kids and we hope that as they grow older to give them a lifetime activity and something to do where they can be outside instead of being inside all the time," said fishing club president Duffy Kopf.

Sunday was free fishing day so that anyone could cast a line regardless of possessing a fishing license.
