Officials: Low Turnout Expected In Tuesday's Primary

Officials Cite Few Contentious Races, Wet Weather

Updated: 5:33 pm CDT September 11, 2006

What if they held an election and no one came?

It probably won't be that bad for Tuesday's primary, but state election officials expect turnout will be weak.

Elections Board spokesman Kyle Richmond said that turnout is expected around 20 percent to 25 percent, which is about 800,000 to 1 million voters.

The only statewide race of much interest is the battle for attorney general.

The governor's race, perhaps the most watched race in Wisconsin, doesn't have a primary. The U.S. Senate race features a snoozer of a primary between incumbent Herb Kohl and marijuana advocate Ben Masel.

Forecasts call for wet weather on Tuesday too, which could keep voters home.
