Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Green released a plan on Friday to clean up government.

Green said he wants to create a government accountability board, replacing the current elections and ethics boards -- something the failed Senate Bill One would have done.

But Democrats said Green did nothing to get the bill passed this session when Assembly leaders looked at it.

"(Senate Bill One) gives the commissions of the Elections and Ethics Boards and gives them the independent authority to investigate people. So, all you really need to say is, 'I strongly back SB-1.' Clearly Mark Green didn't because the Assembly Republicans didn't vote with him," said State Rep. Mark Pocan.

Green also wants to create an inspector general to root out government waste, fraud and abuse and to file criminal charges.

"We've seen some high-profile examples of corruption, fraud and abuse over the past few years. An independent IG will be on the job, acting quickly to put an end to those who are scamming the taxpayers," said Green.

Green again asked Gov. Jim Doyle to agree to a $5.5 million spending limit, which Doyle has rejected in the past.

The governor has a big war-chest lead and has been raising millions more than his Republican opponent.
