State Senate Passes Measure To Double Fines For Littering

Doyle To Weigh Signing Measure

Fines for littering in Wisconsin would be doubled under a bill that has passed the state Senate.

The measure passed on Thursday would double the fine from $500 to $1,000. It would only apply to those who litter large items like appliances, furniture, tires, cars and boats.

A similar version previously passed the Assembly last June that would also have applied to smaller littering like cigarette butts and food wrappers.

An identical version must pass both houses before it heads to Gov. Jim Doyle for his consideration.
