Milwaukee Mayor Joins Obama At Speech In Madison

Barrett Considering Run For Governor

Updated: 4:51 pm CST November 4, 2009

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said President Barack Obama didn't talk with him Wednesday about his decision whether to run for governor next year.

Barrett is under increasing pressure to run for governor next year since the Democratic Party has no major candidate.

Barrett said he and Obama spoke briefly in Madison before the president's speech, but it was all about education.

Obama called Barrett an outstanding mayor when he introduced him during the speech at James C. Wright Middle School.

Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus said earlier on Wednesday that the whole purpose of Obama's visit was to persuade Barrett to run for governor.

Obama didn't mention the governor's race during his comments, which focused on education.
