Group: Legislative Campaign Spending Hits Record
Previous Spending Record Set In 2004

MADISON, Wis. -- Spending on legislative election races in Wisconsin is getting higher than ever.The nonprofit Wisconsin Democracy Campaign said Monday that spending by candidates in last November's election and special interest groups trying to influence the results totaled more than $20.2 million. That's not counting some reports the group said it hadn't been able to obtain.The total topped the previous record of $16.6 million set in the 2004 legislative race.The group said legislative candidates and the leadership committees for each party in the Senate and Assembly spent $13.1 million, compared to the previous record of $10.2 million in 2006.
