Budget Work Expected To Resume

Assembly, Senate Approved Budget Measures Earlier

Updated: 8:41 am CDT June 22,2009

Work on finding a state budget that Gov. Jim Doyle and Democrats in control of the Senate and Assembly can agree to is expected to continue in public this week.

Both the Senate and Assembly are scheduled to be in session Tuesday. That is the earliest they could create a special committee of lawmakers to reach a deal on the $62.2 billion spending plan.

The budget passed each house already but in different forms. It has to pass in the same form before it can be sent to Doyle for his consideration.

Doyle has urged lawmakers to get a deal quickly so the state doesn't lose federal money that will come if certain changes are made by the start of the new fiscal year July 1.
