For First Time, State Meets Minority Business Goal
1,200 Businesses To Take Part In Program

MADISON, Wis. -- Gov. Jim Doyle said state agencies have for the first time met a goal to give 5 percent of their business to minority-owned firms.Doyle released a report showing 5.87 percent of state procurement went to firms in the Minority Business Enterprise program in 2008.It is the first time in the 25-year history of the program the state has met its 5 percent goal. The nearly $95 million spent also marks the most money spent in the program in one year.The firms provided the state goods and services and did work on state building and highway projects. More than 1,200 businesses are certified to take part in the program.
