An enthusiastic crowd met the Republican presidential and vice presidential candidates, despite a WISC-TV poll this week showing a 10-point deficit in Wisconsin. Supporters were excited to hear his plans, but many want to know how he can turn the numbers around.

"We're all wondering why Obama is where he's at, how he got here, everyone in this room is stunned that we're in this position," an audience member asked at the event.

"Do you know how many times the pundits in the past two years have written off my campaign?" said McCain. "We will win the state of Wisconsin, and we will win this election."

McCain and Palin took questions from the audience about everything from the economy to abortion, continuing attacks on Democratic Sen. Barack Obama and the media, and also talking about their new "homeownership resurgence plan."

"We must stabilize housing values in America. They've got to stop plummeting, and until they do we're not going to see this economy turn around," said McCain.

Many of the supporters at the event doubted recent polls and believe McCain and Palin still have a chance to win the state.

"I can't believe that he's down 10 points," said John Blawat of Hartland. "I know that southeastern Wisconsin and Dane County specifically is Democrat, but I think it's the media."

"I think he needs to talk a little more about the economy and not give Obama the help he did during the debate," said Martin Rogan of Sun Prairie.

"I'm still somewhat undecided as far as a voter goes," said Ted Kieper of Waukesha. "I've typically always been a Republican, but I think it's time for a change, I'm not sure what we're going to change to."

The Obama campaign said McCain's mortgage plan would cost taxpayers billions and is condemning what they call "angry personal attacks."

McCain continues a tour of the state Thursday with a rally in Mosinee and one in La Crosse Friday.
