Volunteers Promote McCain

FITCHBURG, Wis. -- A new headquarters for local Republicans has opened in Fitchburg.GOP grassroots volunteers were on hand Saturday for the grand opening of the Madison Victory Center in Fitchburg.The center provides a campaign central for Republican races, from Sen. John McCain's bid for president down the ticket.Volunteers perform a variety of tasks, including calling Wisconsin residents and going door to door promoting the upcoming election."Folks can come here, order up signs, pick up literature, sign up to volunteer, make phone calls, go off and drop literature in neighborhoods, drop off signs -- those types of things. All of the things that go on in an active campaign we're going to be having here in the area," said Mark Jefferson, executive director of the Republican Party of Wisconsin.Officials said they hope to promote voter turnout in Wisconsin as Republicans work toward a win in November.
