State Lawmakers, Governor's Staff Continue Budget Talks
State Budget Is 3 Months Late

MADISON, Wis. -- State lawmakers and members of Gov. Jim Doyle's staff are entering their second day of private negotiations to resolve the state budget.Doyle called Democratic Senate Majority Leader Judy Robson and Republican Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch to his residence on Monday. The meeting lasted until about 9 p.m.The second meeting started at about 10 a.m. on Tuesday.No one involved with the talks is commenting on what has been discussed or whether progress is being made.Doyle wasn't participating in person with all the negotiations, but he has high-level staff involved in the talks.The state budget is three months late. Current spending continues during the impasse.
