La Follette Nabs Another Term; Sass Wins In Upset

LaFollette Is 28-Year Incumbent

While longtime Secretary of State Doug LaFollette won yet another term Tuesday night, his fellow Democrat's victory in the state treasurer race was something of an upset.

LaFollette, whose family name is steeped in Wisconsin political history, is a 28-year incumbent.

He defeated Republican challenger Sandy Sullivan, who created headlines in the normally sleepy race with a book that she wrote two years ago detailing her affairs and exploits with 1960s-era Green Bay Packers.

More excitement came in state treasurer race when Democrat Dawn Marie Sass successfully unseated incumbent Republican Jack Voight in a close race.

Both candidates pulled in 47 percent, but a difference of less than 10,000 votes put Sass over the top.
