MADISON, Wis. -- A last-minute infusion of cash is helping supporters of the marriage amendment air television ads across Wisconsin. The donation was made after the latest reporting period, meaning that it had to be reported in a separate filing. The filing showed that a political action committee lead by the former head of the Republican Party is giving the group Vote Yes For Marriage $385,000, and that money is being used for the group's only TV ad of the campaign. The ad, which started running on WISC-TV Monday, features children talking about marriage.Supporters of the Constitutional amendment reported raising $166,000 before this all year, so the donation is making a big difference for the group. But the money raised by Vote Yes For Marriage is a far cry from the $3.8 million raised by opponents of the marriage amendment, WISC-TV reported."We know we don't have to buy the votes of Wisconsin citizens. They understand this marriage amendment is about who gets to determine what marriage will be," said Julaine Appling of Vote Yes For Marriage. The group Fair Wisconsin is urging voters to vote "no" on the marriage amendment."We've run a lot of different television ads trying to educate the electorate about the far-reaching impacts of this amendment and how we think it's wrong for Wisconsin's families," said Mike Tate of Fair Wisconsin. The head of the donor group, former Republican Party leader Steve King, said the money is necessary to get the message out.
