As Seen On TV: Revo Styler
Reviewer: It's A Lot Of Work
Most women use hair-styling devices. For some, blow dryers and curling irons are a must-have, and one viewer wondered if the "Revo Styler" would join that list. She asked Katy Sai to test the "As Seen on TV" product for her series -- to see if it can really give you that salon look at home.
Fixing her 5-year-old daughter's hair is a breeze for Kelly Borde compared to styling her own hair, which is very curly and thick.
She was interested in the promise of the Revo Styler."I like the smoothness of their hair and it seemed like it wouldn't take a lot of my time," Kelly said. After all, the ad makes it look like the brush does all the work for you. Kelly and her friends, Cami and Karis offered to test the Revo Styler on different hair types. One thing the women didn't bargain on is using a blow dryer with the revolving brush. Their arms got tired using it. It's easier when someone else uses the device on their hair, but even then it worked best on Cammi's short, fine hair."It got done in like... really quick," she said. But when they try to do their own hair -- it got stuck."We wondered what an experienced stylist would think, so we took the Revostyler to the owner of the Ultimate Spa Salon, Debi Offerdahl, who's my stylist," Sai said."It can smooth the hair out, but it's going to be -- I think, more work," Offerdahl.First, it tends to get caught in longer hair. Plus, Debi thinks the device is unnecessarily complicated with two rotational options and two speed settings. She says there's a lot of room for error."I think you have less control because this is so uncontrollable," she said. "Now this is heavy ... you pick up a blow dryer and you're trying to maneuver both. I think this is clumsy."Kelly has come to the conclusion that the Revostyler is heavy, clumsy and a lot of work. However, when it's used properly, she liked her hair."I think my hair is really smooth and really straight -- I like it," she said. "But it was a lot of work to use it."Debi suggests instead of the Revo Styler, use a much lighter round brush with metal or ceramic to conduct heat. This concludes Katy's "As Seen on TV" series, but you can do your own research. Several Web sites post consumer reviews and complaints. http://www.tv-product-reviews.com/ http://www.as-seen-on-tv-reviews.net/ http://www.asseenontv-product-reviews.com/
