William J. Close, age 76, of Janesville, died on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at home. He was born on Nov. 11, 1937, in the family home on Bluff Street in Janesville, which was built by his great grandfather, George Irwin (1837 – 1914), and was the son of William J., Sr. and Helen (Malone) Close. He graduated from Janesville Senior High School in 1958, where he was active in sports, baseball, and basketball. Bill later played golf as an adult earning 2 holes in one in 1988 and 1995. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962. He was employed by Parker Pen from 1962, until its closing as Gillette in 1999.

Bill is survived by his 2 sisters, Helen Jean Close and Carol Close. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 sisters, Peggy Coutts and Patricia Casey. He is further survived by his 6 nieces and nephews: Lynette (Michael) McWilliams, Matthew (Maureen) Miller, Tamara (William) Brown, Marilyn (Karl) Allen, James Casey, III and Patrick Casey; great nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH with Rev. Stephen J. Umhoefer officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY. Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, Inc.
