William F. "Bill" Griffin, age 86, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016 at Oak Park Place.
He was born on June 25, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Michael H. Griffin and Bridie (Joyce) Griffin. He married Joyce Johnston on January 28, 1956.
Bill worked as a Social Worker and retired as the head of the Department of Health and Human Services for the State of Wisconsin. He was incredibly hardworking, and a devoted husband supporting his six children and caring for Joyce who predeceased him in 1982. Bill then married Nancy Zeller on October 12, 1984. He was a passionate and artistic potter and loved playing the guitar and singing. He was an avid health nut who enjoyed fitness and working out.
Bill is survived by his children, Sheila (George) Llanas, Hugh (Linda) Griffin, Michael (Diane) Griffin, Bridget (Randy) Dolfen, Mary Jackson and Tom (Erica) Griffin; Two step-children; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brother, Michael (Judy) Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joyce Griffin; second wife, Nancy Berg Griffin; and granddaughter, Kiana Griffin.
A visitation will be held at Gunderson East Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice.
