William D. McGary

William D. McGary, age 66, of Janesville, died on Monday, April 8, 2013, at home after a 21-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Ladysmith, WI on June 26, 1946, the son of James R. and Mildred C. (Roden) McGary. He graduated from Flambeau High School, Tony, WI, and served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968. Bill married Valerie M. Joles in Sheldon, WI on Oct. 5, 1968, and had been a Janesville resident since 1968. He had been employed by General Motors for 36 years and after retirement worked for the Auto Spa Car Wash. He enjoyed hunting with his brother and nephews for deer and turkey, fishing in Canada with family, and loved woodworking.

Bill is survived by his wife, Val McGary of Janesville; 2 children, Kelly (Graham) Smith of Janesville and Shane McGary of Genoa City, WI; 2 grandchildren, Gradyn and Kuen; mother, Mildred McGary of Jump River, WI; brother, Bob McGary of Sheldon, WI; his large extended McGary and Joles families; his work family; church family; his chemo nurses and staff "his girls" with Dr. Emily Robinson; Dr. Shahid Shekhani; Linda Brethauer, and his many great friends. He was preceded in death by his father and brother, LeRoy McGary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2013, at ST. WILLIAM CATHOLIC CHURCH with Rev. John Auby officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at ST. WILLIAM CATHOLIC CHURCH. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorials may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network; Teambill. SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY is assisting the family.

A special thank you to the staff in the Oncology Department with Mercy Hospital, Mercy Hospice especially Marnie and Fr. John Auby for all their wonderful care and support.

Bill's wife, children, and grandchildren would like everyone to know that he was the best Husband, Dad, and Papa ever.
