MADISON-Wesley J. Zulty, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013.
He was born on Jan. 28, 1928, at 1:28 in the morning, the only child to Phil and Minnie (Galick) Zulty. Wesley grew up on the east side of Madison and graduated from East High School in 1945 and UW-Madison in 1949. He later graduated from UW Law School in 1952.
Wesley worked his way through college and law school by playing saxophone in local dance bands, and selling golf clubs out of his home on Spaight Street. Wes Zulty Sports was created and became a local fixture for the next 50 plus years. As a local land developer, he built shopping centers where he located his sporting goods store and legal offices.
He served the Madison Community through generous contributions to athletic clubs, service clubs, individuals who needed help, and his family. Wesley sat on a variety of boards throughout his professional career, such as the greater Madison Chamber of Commerce, Goodwill Industries, Multiple Sclerosis, Shorewood Hills Zoning Board, and others. He was a lifetime member of Temple Beth El. He was a former member of Blackhawk Country Club.
Wesley loved playing golf as often as he could in Madison or near his home in Tucson. He lived a long fulfilling life, articulating in recent years how grateful he was for the gift of life bestowed upon him, and especially his family. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Wesley is survived by his wife, Beverly; sons, Bob (Debbie) Briggas and Bruce Griggas; daughter, Brynne Nodolf; son-in-law, Brian Nodolf; and grandchildren, Ariel, Otto, and Oren Griggas, and Charles Nodolf. He was preceded in death by his parents.
