Viola L. Haupt, age 99, died on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Lodi Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
Viola was born on Sept. 20, 1913, in Racine, Minnesota, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Lage. Viola married Raymond Haupt on April 22, 1939. They farmed side by side on the Haupt Homestead, on the Arlington Prairie for more than 40 years. She was well known in the area for raising chickens and selling their eggs.
Viola was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Arlington, where she belonged to the Ladies Aid, LWML, and served on the Altar Guild. She also served as a volunteer at Lodi Good Samaritan Nursing Home, where she sewed quilts and made items for their bazaars. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake pies, sew, and crochet. Many enjoyed the candles she made for relatives and friends at Christmas time.
Her parents; husband, Raymond; brothers, Earnest (Hattie) and Lelon (Lillian); and a special nephew, Russell Haupt, Sr. preceded her in death. Survivors include nieces, Myrthis (Bill) Griffith, Phyllis Haupt, Dorothy Whiting, Carol (Bruce) Dethmers; and nephews, David (Ellen) Haupt and John (Liz) Schoenknecht.
Funeral services for Viola will be held at HAMRE GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 157 S. Main St. Lodi, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013, with Chaplain Pulsfus presiding. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery following the service.
