Verle Phillip Wolf

MONONA-Verle Phillip Wolf, age 57, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Verle was born on August 31, 1956, in Beloit, WI. Verle attended Monona Grove High School and set many records for wrestling, graduating in 1974.

Verle was a veteran, serving with the United States Marine Corp. His interests included; History and Trivia, with an almost flawless recall of events; watching college sports on television, as well as superhero and sci-fi movies. 

Verle was a gentle soul who was loved by all and was very proud of his continued recovery from alcoholism, celebrating 7 years of sobriety while being very active in many of the local support groups.

His love for his family and pets was the cornerstone of his character and he will always be remembered for his quick wit, keen sense of humor and for always being there, a true man of his word. 

Survivors include his five sisters; Linda Wolf Devenpeck of Altamont, N.Y., Elsie (James) Wolf Derer, of Madison, WI., Laura Wolf of Monona, WI., Tina Wolf of Cottage Grove, WI. and Tammy Jo (Tim) Wolf Pysher of Cottage Grove; by his two brothers; Eugene Wolf of Arkansas and Todd (Lois) Wolf of Madison, WI. 

Verle is also survived by whom he considered his immediate family; his nephew, Jonathan Derer and great niece Jorja Derer; his nephew, Jeffrey (Kristal) Derer and great niece Theadora Derer; his niece, Jamie Derer Stapelmann and great nieces Samantha and Hallie Stapelmann; his step-mother, Ellen Wolf Forbes of Cottage Grove, WI. and by many other nieces, nephews, friends and by his closest friend, Mel. Verle was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Caroline and by his brother Paul.

A Celebration of Verle's life will be conducted on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 6 p.m. at the Cress Center with Tim Dunn officiating. Friends of the family may call from 3 p.m. up until time of services.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the UW Palliative Care Staff at the UW Hospital for their loving care of Verle.
