Twylah L. Kepler, 93, of Richland Center died Friday, March 28, 2014 at Pine Valley Healthcare. She was born July 14, 1920 in the village of Loyd, Willow Township the daughter of William Benjamin and Leona (Borchardt) Shaw. She married Theron L. Kepler. They farmed in Sylvan Township near Sabin where they developed a herd of high-producing Registered "Sabinview" Holstein cattle.
After her husband's death in 1973, she earned her Associate Degree at UW-Richland. She served as Richland County Fair Secretary for six years. Later she became historian of the Richland County History Room, Brewer Library, for 21 years.
Her hobbies were reading historical and political books, sewing, cooking and playing cards with friends. She loved history, especially local history, and the genealogy of Richland County people. She was a member of Colonial Dames XVII Century (Edward Jackson Chapter) proving an ancestor who came to American before 1700, and a life member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Black Hawk Chapter) proving four ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War. She was a member of the Richland Center Historic Preservation Committee, the Richland County Historical Society, the Resource Center Advisory Committee for Richland County Social Services, Woman's Relief Corps, and also served as an elder of the Town & Country Presbyterian Church.
One of the highlights of her life was discovering the grave of her great-great-grandmother, Polly Eggleston Plant, in the Viola Cemetery. This ancestor was a daughter of a Revolutionary War soldier, and the first grave so marked in Richland County.
She is survived by three children: Patricia (Harold) Clark, Judith (Robert) Fischer, Kelly (Deb) Kepler all of Richland Center; five grandchildren: Brian (Linda) Clark of Wisconsin Rapids, Shawn (Jim) Chitwood of Basswood, Richard (Jodi) Clark of Janesville, Rob and Jon (Amy Robinson) Fischer of Portland, OR; ten great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Velma Shaw, local, June Shaw of Sarasota, FL, Jean (Wayne) Barnes of Richland Center, Carroll Kepler of Richland Center; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Twylah was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, William Benjamin Shaw, Gordon (Joyce) Shaw, Bob Shaw, Modrel (Pat) Shaw; brothers-in-law Verlin (Ellen) Kepler, Rollin (Rosalia) Kepler, infant Thomas Kepler; and sisters-in-law, Elma Kepler (Floyd) Fry, Grace Kepler (Lawrence) Blackbourn, and Evelyn (Carroll) Kepler.
A Celebration and Remembrance of Twylah's life will be held at the Town and Country Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Friends may call at the Town and Country Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM. A private family inurnment will be held at the Mount Tabor Cemetery at a later date.
