Tilman H. Christianson

Tilman H. Christianson, 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Arena on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, after a short battle with brain cancer. Tilman was born August 15, 1937 in Viroqua to Hilmar and Elnora (Holte) Christianson. He attended Viroqua High School, and then began working for Fisher Body in Janesville. In April, 1959 he married the love of his life, Dorothy Lehmann of Retreat.

He belonged to the National Guard for nine years, being called to Ft. Lewis, WA in 1961 as a Sergeant. Upon returning to Janesville, Tilman began his 53 years in insurance, eventually owning his own Independent Insurance business. He was also a Boy Scout Leader, member of the Oregon Optimist Club and served as Lieutenant Governor for the downtown Madison Optimists Club, among many other organizations. He was a dedicated member of the St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Verona.

Tilman is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; son, Tim of Madison; daughter, Cindy (Paul) Rescorl of Neptune, N.J.; step-granddaughters, Jessica (Steve Steinhauser) Rescorl of New Jersey, Helena (Steve) Johnson of Arkansas; great-granddaughter, Rowan Rescorl of New Jersey; brother, Conrad (Mary) Christianson; sisters, Joanne (Gordon) Dach and Judy (Eldon) Gardner all of Viroqua; brothers-in-law, Donald Lehmann of Kenosha, Richard (Sharon) Lehmann of Stoughton, Russell (Bernadine) Lehmann of Mindoro; caregiver and friend, Tina Zander; many cousins; nieces; nephews and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marvin in 1954; Dorothy's parents, Ed and Doris (Marks) Lehmann; and nephew, Todd Christianson in 1991.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2013 at ST. JAMES EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 427 S. Main Street, Verona, with Rev. Kurt Billings officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Mound Cemetery in Retreat at a later date.

Visitation will be held before services at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
